Abstract

 

Abstract. The article deals with the issue of multimedia in teaching foreign language in the context of deepening of scientific and technological progress, general reform of the pedagogical process in the light of the concepts of "clip consciousness" as a syndrome of mass attention disorder, as well as in the context of the practice of using multimedia resources in foreign language lessons in domestic and international contexts. The cognitive preconditions of using multimedia with the educational purpose were explored, the meaning and in-depth understanding of the term "multimedia" in the CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) paradigm was revealed. A system of general principles and guidelines for the use of multimedia learning tools in foreign language lessons has been developed, special attention has been paid to typical shortcomings in the use of multimedia in foreign language lessons. The main advantages of multimedia engagement are recognition of the tendency to modernize the pedagogical process in accordance with existing worldview changes, the growth of the function of studying a foreign language with the development of globalization, the personal orientation of learning, the potential for increasing of interactivity in classes, introducing an element of curiosity, the ability to construct a socio-linguistic culture model of communication environment that is favorable for a more natural and communicative-oriented study of a foreign language, the formation of a proper level of linguistic competence.
